there’s lots of concern about the corporate past of chipotle and whether they are owned by mcdonalds. mcdonalds being an “evil company” of course.
it turns out that in the fourth quarter of 2006 (october, to be specific) mcdonalds finished selling all of their shares in chipotle. so, chipotle is now owned by shareholders which means that you can buy some and then whenever you eat their it’s “just to help my portfolio” :)
this story was covered in yahoo news about mcdonalds fourth quarter 2006 financials.

McDonald's ownership
FYI, owning stock does not constitute “ownership,” even if a majority of the stock is owned. Even then, there is a marked difference between ownership, stock interests, and creative control. Chipotle has never, EVER, released creative control of its model, menu, or supply line.
perhaps
ok, I kind of see that, but if a some owns 93% of the voting stock in a company and says “change your recipe” then it’s hard to disagree. all it takes is a few years and a few board vote replacements to get a board friendly to the 93% owner to replace the CEO with someone who will change the recipe.
i recognize that some companies have non-voting stock in which case your statement would still be valid, but chipotle’s stock is voting stock.
