delicious stuff.
Soft Tacos (flour)
corn tortilla soft tacos (yeah, I said corn tortillas!)
wow. the sign at the front of the line at this store today said something about “attention soft taco lovers (and the rest of you, really). we’re now offering corn tortillas for the soft tacos if you want to try it. let us know whatchoo think.”
so, naturally I had to try them. and they were good. this is certainly a step towards authenticity, which is a “good thing” in many people’s corn-tortilla-loving-minds. in my case the tortillas were not great. they seemed like they had been sliced with a knife - as I rolled them up they split letting lots of food dump out. I don’t mind much, but it was weird. perhaps this natural aspect of corn tortillas is why burritoblog.com’s jonah feld calls for two tortillas on a real taco.
it’s pretty interesting. this store, i’ve heard, is a trial store for new things. certainly being close to the corporate offices helps in that regard. i wonder how the corn tortillas will go for them. i think that perhaps it’s time to make a campaign to get people to go to this store and order lots of these tortillas so that they’ll do it at more stores.
chicken tacos at chipotle on broadway
great times as always. i biked over in my flipflops which doesn’t work well with clip-in pedals…
chipotle chicken tacos in denver's highlands
it was the highlands fair and these were delicious. get a funnel cake or get chipotle tacos: no! get both.
oh mah god - chipotle burrito in omaha
we were on a road trip home from sioux city iowa and i thought - i wonder if there is a chipotle in omaha, nebraska since we have to drive through that anyway. and guess what? there is. at least one. the one we went to is near the University of Nebraska. i’m not sure of all the chipotle locations around there, but at least this one was pretty nice.
the strip mall it was in was not nearly as nice as most are. and the railing around the outside was made out of railing, not just angle iron. i hope that was a rule from either the city or the strip mall and not chipotle changing their style.
biking to the original chipotle
i decided to bike down to the store today. it was a great time. i figured out that from my house down to ellsworth, over to washington takes me most of the way south. from there i should have gotten on buchtel and taken buchtel to franklin. instead i wound through platt park and east du neighborhoods and nearly got in accidents with cars at the many low visibility intersections.
on the way home i took franklin to buchtel which worked great, but then i got on downing north which worked OK aside from the asshole cars who don’t know colorado bike/driving law very well. The thing is colorado bike law isn’t just for bicyclists. it’s for drivers.
interestingly enough in my afternoon rage i see that we will soon be able to get share the road license plates which is pretty cool. I’ll definitely be doing that next time I need a license.
