in deference to my love of chipotle the guys in new york agreed to go to chipotle on saturday. i love it.
the most interesting thing about this place to me was how they have a standing bar. at the original store (and every one since) they’ve created a “bar” seating area with tall stools and seating that is optimized for an individual or two people. in new york they don’t have any stools at this bar as it’s a standing bar area. that probably doubles or triples the number of people who can use the bar at any time. of course, it being so cold this weekend we had hats and jackets and it was really inconvenient to try to stand there eating our food with our jackets in hand.
which got me thinking, chipotle needs to have hooks that they attach to the bottom of this bar area. i’ve got a couple of ideas on how to best create these items and will hopefully have some prototypes available in the next few weeks.
also, i got a totally new receipt phrase: “The Bol. Shed a layer.” which is a nice little pun about how the bol is one fewer layers of burrito but also an enormous amount fewer calories. lots of people feel “tricked” when they find out how many calories are in a burrito. they thought it was healthy and then they see that it’s 1200 calories. well…get rid of the tortilla and you’ll be all set.
oh yeah - and i got some photos which are in the gallery of the chipotle at 864 broadway in new york.
