My first soft corn tortillas

Theo's picture

I actually had three tacos this time around - one chicken, one carnitas, one veggie, to try out the new corn soft tacos. Each had the same toppings.

corn tortilla soft tacos (yeah, I said corn tortillas!)

wow. the sign at the front of the line at this store today said something about “attention soft taco lovers (and the rest of you, really). we’re now offering corn tortillas for the soft tacos if you want to try it. let us know whatchoo think.”

so, naturally I had to try them. and they were good. this is certainly a step towards authenticity, which is a “good thing” in many people’s corn-tortilla-loving-minds. in my case the tortillas were not great. they seemed like they had been sliced with a knife - as I rolled them up they split letting lots of food dump out. I don’t mind much, but it was weird. perhaps this natural aspect of corn tortillas is why burritoblog.com’s jonah feld calls for two tortillas on a real taco.

it’s pretty interesting. this store, i’ve heard, is a trial store for new things. certainly being close to the corporate offices helps in that regard. i wonder how the corn tortillas will go for them. i think that perhaps it’s time to make a campaign to get people to go to this store and order lots of these tortillas so that they’ll do it at more stores.

wife. booze. joe stupp. music/concert rockout. best. day. EVER.

great wife

i split a barbacoa burrito with my wife. i love spending time with my wife. i guess it's a good thing i married her. (i also love barbacoa and so does she! see - that's part of what makes her so great!)

great happy hour

as i walked through the line i noticed they are doing "happy hour" at this location from 6 to 8 - free chips/salsa and half price beers/margaritas. awesome! i'm totally in. the manager seemed excited about the deal, so folks should take advantage of it for sure.

the chipotle joe team

then, half way through lunch the "joe" walked into the store. you know joe from the "ask joe" feature on chipotle.com. i wasn't sure at first, but i asked the manager and he confirmed joe was indeed "that joe". i realize now the others were ken and dawn, but I just don't know y'all's faces yet. sorry! EDIT: turns out it was some other folks.

music/concert community rock out!

then i get back from lunch and find out that a project i've been helping my friend ezra with is now open to the public. yep - get your concert on at concertology. oh hells yeah! (it's a little rough around the edges still so play with care, but tomorrow is an all day hackfest and from there it's like a straight path to music/concert community roxxorz!)

best. day ever

i ask you - what could make for a better day? not much.

barbacoa burrito to split at chipotle in downtown denver (and delivery!)

greg's picture

I ate with bug today so we’re splitting.

also, today is 3 days before the 14th birthday of chipotle. So don’t forget and you can meet me at the first chipotle store at 11AM so that we can buy a burrito in celebration. yay.

also, (also!) they are now doing delivery from this store at 16th and blake - so the chipotle delivery from the colfax store wasn’t a fluke. Adam writes about the beauties of the don’t stand in line (DSL) delivery system at chipotle and how it makes an offline online connection which makes a lot of sense to me.

and finally, pete in the city discusses a vip card or perhaps just using a Colorado drivers license to determine pecking rights in the chipotle line.

i love it.

my wfe always orders this same burrito. sometimes she gets barbacoa, but this is her favorite. she ordered today. that’s nice.

chicken burrito after jury duty rejection

greg's picture

i got a summons for jury duty this morning which was kind of a bummer because i have lots of work to do, but also a great thing because i’ve wanted to serve on a jury for years now.

well, i got dismissed right about noon-45 which meant i rode my bike to the other side of downtown and met my partner for lunch. we split a chicken burrito. and planned out the next week worth of gardening (we’ve got weeds and need to plan some stuff!)
